Work is underway for the Rungkopi trailer and this is planned for release in November 2020 with the release of Rungkopi (the full film) in spring 2021. The film will be screened first in the Kampongs on Mount Kinabalu as a way to say “thank you” to all those who contributed to this film. After these screenings on Mount Kinabalu, the film will then be available for general viewing.

There are still many, many hours and days of editing and transcribing (the film is in the Dusun dialect) to be completed for the final film but my gut instinct is that this will be a visual story that I can be proud of.

One of the stories that form Rungkopi is of Gimbulok Mendayong. Gimbulok is a farmer recounts how she came third in the iconic Kinabalu Climbathon race that reaches the top of Mt Kinabalu. Gimbulok was 45 years old at the time and ran barefoot as she never wears shoes.  In fact, as a farmer she never trained and she smiled as I filmed her recalling her surprise at beating overseas athletes to take the podium spot.  A simple story that I just had to include in Rungkopi.
