A few days ago I posted an image from a photo shoot for T8 that I took of Veronika Vadovičová striding out against a backdrop of Kowloon soaking in the setting sun. I have genuinely been moved by the messages and comments that people have left there as well as all the others that have found alternate ways to send me messages on the back of this post. One thing is for sure, I could never complain about a lack of warmth and support that has been shown to me by the Hong Kong community and beyond.
The last time I used a digital camera for commercial work was on assignment for Strava to capture images of Ultra Trail Mount Fuji 2019 and since then I have only picked up my SLR camera to shoot film & develop these images at home. It was with a mixture of nerves and gratitude (more nerves) that I read the message from John at T8 when he reached out and asked if I could shoot some promotional images for their new apparel and running face masks. When I first met with John to discuss the shoot I was candid with him and admitted that I was very nervous about shooting again after a long absence. I will leave it for another time to write about how I came to a point of deciding that I would pick up my cameras and work professionally again but suffice to say that the shoot was quite an experience and I appreciate the faith that was placed in me to be able to deliver the goods.
Over the past eighteen months photography has taken on another level of expression for me in a way that is akin to how blues musicians find an outlet in their music. Capturing images such as these are my outlet and hopefully others like yourself connect with them too.
